Australian Motocross Star Jay Wilson to Compete in Round 7 of the All Japan Motocross Championship
October 6, 2021 – Yamaha Motor Australia rider and six-time New Zealand and Australian Motocross and Supercross Champion Jay Wilson will race a #106-plated YZ250F on the Yamalube Yamaha Racing Australia team in the IA2 class at Round 7 of the All Japan Motocross Championship, the 59th MFJGP, at Sportsland SUGO in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan on October 23–24, 2021.
In previous years, Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. has sent young up-and-coming Japanese riders to the United States and Australia to compete, and this invitation to Wilson is intended to both foster further exchanges with Yamaha’s overseas subsidiaries, and to help energize Japan’s motocross scene in general.
Wilson became Australia’s first-ever motocross world champion when he won the 2009 FIM Junior Motocross World Championship in New Zealand. As a professional rider since then, he has won both the Australian and New Zealand motocross championships once and the Supercross titles in both countries twice, making him a six-time title holder.
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Wilson headed to the United States and competed in five of nine rounds in the AMA Supercross 250SX West Division, finishing 19th overall. He also won the Queensland Motocross Championship title that year. In 2021, he is competing in the ProMX Australian Motocross Championship’s MX2 class, where he is 4th in the points after four races.
