New Organizational Reforms and Personnel Changes at Yamaha Motor
IWATA, December 24, 2019—At today’s Board of Directors Meeting, Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. (Tokyo:7272) resolved to implement the following organizational reforms and personnel changes, effective Wednesday, January 1, 2020.
■ Establishment of GET (Global Execution Transformation) (effective January 1, 2020)
GET (Global Execution Transformation) will be established as a global activity organization designed for management and business functions.
1. Aim
Executive officers and highly-specialized global professionals will work together to promote global activities related to management and business functions.
In particular, this work will involve standardizing and increasing the sophistication of management methods, progression on various issues, and work involved in human resource development etc.
2. Organizations involved in these initiatives and their constituent members
■ Organizational Reforms (effective Wednesday, January 1, 2020)
1. Human Resources & General Affairs Center
In order to further enhance the corporate value of the Yamaha Motor Group, we will strengthen the systems for promoting initiatives regarding sustainability issues such as ESG (Environment, Society, and Governance) and SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). We will also reorganize the Human Resources & General Affairs Center with the aim of strengthening compliance systems for global security trade control.
・ | The Risk Management & Compliance Division is to have its functions reorganized and be renamed as the Sustainability Division. |
・ | The security trade monitoring functions of the Integrated Auditing Division, the environmentally-hazardous substances management functions under the Risk Management & Compliance Division, and the trade control functions of the Logistics & Security Trade Division, Manufacturing Strategy Section, Manufacturing and Production Engineering Center will be integrated within the newly-established International Trade Control Division. |
2. Mobility Technology Center
The Mobility Technology Center will be reorganized with the aim of prioritizing the research and development of advanced electronic components and improving the value and efficient development of mobility products for internal and external use.
・ | The mass production development functions for electronic components will be transferred to the Powertrain Unit in order to focus on R&D. Accordingly, the EM Development Section will be renamed the EM Technology Section. |
・ | In order to strengthen the planning, research, and advanced development functions of electronic components, the EM Engineering Planning Division under the EM Development Section will now be called the EM Strategy Division, within which advanced development and development planning functions will be established. |
・ | The Automotive Business Unit will have its name changed to the Automotive Development Section with the aim of improving value and efficient development of mobility products for internal and external use by accelerating the development of the latest automobile-related technologies including electrification and optimizing development resource allocation. This Section will be repositioned under the Mobility Technology Center. |
3. Advanced Technology Center
The Advanced Technology Center will be reorganized to strengthen technology development and synergies between regions.
・ | In order to strengthen synergies between regions in the mobility service business, the New Value Business Development Division of Motorcycle Business Operations will be transferred to the New Venture Business Development Section and renamed the MSB (Mobility Service Business) Division. |
・ | To strengthen the development of low-speed mobility technology and increase synergies, the Low Speed Mobility Division of the New Venture Business Development Section will be transferred to the Research & Development Section. |
・ | In order to clarify field and service robotics development functions, the Advanced Technology Research Division of the Research & Development Section will now be known as the FSR (Field and Service Robotics) Development Division. In addition, UGV (Unmanned Ground Vehicles) development will be accelerated by transferring the UGV development functions of the Solution Business Operations to the FSR Development Division. |
・ | For sales expansion of the medical device business, the functions of the Medical Device Business Development Division under the New Venture Business Development Section will be reorganized and renamed the Medical Device Business Division. |
4. Quality Assurance Center
In order to strengthen systems for quality governance and ensuring safety and compliance with laws and regulations, the newly-established Quality Assurance Center will have the Corporate Quality Section and the Motorcycle Quality Assurance Section repositioned under it.
・ | The customer communication functions that include the Corporate Quality Assurance Division and the Service Section under the Customer Quality Section of the CS Center will be transferred to the Corporate Quality Section and the Corporate Quality Assurance Division established underneath it. |
・ | The Quality Assurance Section under the Motorcycle Business Operations will be transferred to the Quality Assurance Center. In accordance with this, its name will be changed to the Motorcycle Quality Assurance Section. In addition, in order to strengthen its functionality, the previous two-part system of the Quality Assurance Section (Quality Assurance Division and Quality Promotion Division), is to be reorganized into a three-part system (Quality Planning Division, Product Quality Assurance Division, and QA Innovation Division) |
5. Manufacturing and Production Engineering Center
For the purpose of speeding up global demand chain reform and strengthening the compliance system for global security trade control functions, the Logistics & Security Trade Division under the Manufacturing Strategy Section will be progressively dissolved.
・ | Its logistics operations and management functions will be transferred to the Demand Chain Innovation Division of the Manufacturing Strategy Section, and its trade management functions will be transferred to the International Trade Control Division of the Human Resources & General Affairs Center. |
6. Procurement Center
The Procurement Center will be reorganized with the aim of strategically promoting the global expansion of indirect material business innovations.
・ | The Indirect Material Procurement Promotion Division under the Procurement Section will be transferred to the Strategy Planning Section. |
7. PF Model Unit
The PF Model Unit will be reorganized with the aim of promoting vehicle development by deepening organic functional construction and cooperation between business and development.
・ | The PF Strategy Division will be newly established under the PF Model Development Section. |
・ | In order to deepen cooperation with the Global Branding Section of the Motorcycle Business Operations and promote vehicle development based on the value provided, the SC Development Division, ST Development Division, and the SP Development Division under the PF Model Development Section will be reorganized and integrated into two divisions, the Sports Vehicle Development Division and the Commuter Vehicle Development Division |
・ | With the aim of sharing rough road driving technology and improving technical capabilities, the YZ development functions of the RV Development Division and the Motor Sports Development Division, Motor Sports Section, Mobility Technology Center will be integrated into the newly-established Off-road Vehicle Development Division under the PF Model Development Section. |
・ | The Functional Unit Engineering Division under the PF Model Development Section is to be reorganized and renamed as the Functional Module Development Division in order to achieve both increased development quality and development speed while maintaining a close relationship with product development. |
・ | The Motor Sports Section is to be incorporated from the Mobility Technology Center. |
8. CS Center
The CS Center is to be reorganized in line with the establishment of the new Quality Assurance Center.
・ | In line with the transfer of the Corporate Quality Assurance Division under the Customer Quality Section of the CS Center, the Service Division will be positioned directly under the CS Center. |
9. Motorcycle Business Operations
In order to create lifelong customers as a business growth engine through integrated marketing that combines 3S (main unit sales, spare parts, and service) functions, current business divisions will be progressively dissolved and systems built that can quickly formulate, make decisions, and give instructions regarding overall strategies.
・ | In order to build a differentiated brand through the creation of value provided to customers, we will reorganize the cross-trade functions of the Marketing Planning Division of the 1st Business Unit, along with the product planning functions of the Product Strategy Division of the Total Strategy Section etc., and newly establish these as the Global Branding Section. |
・ | In order to provide a seamless customer experience and create lifelong customers by 3S integration, the Advanced Countries Sales Division of the 1st Business Unit, the Southeast & East Asia Sales Division and the Emerging Countries Sales Division of the 2nd Business Unit, the Service Division of the Customer Quality Section of the CS Center, and the Domestic and Overseas Sales Divisions of the After Sales Section of the CS Center are to be reorganized. These will then be positioned as the 3S Southeast & East Asia Section, the 3S Advanced Countries Section, and the 3S Emerging Countries Section. |
・ | This aims to reduce organizational layers for faster decision making. |
10. Marine Business Operations
In accordance with the expansion of the business area using FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastics), the Pool Business Development Section will be renamed the FRP Business Development Section.
・ | The Sales Division in the Pool Business Development Section will also be renamed the Pool Sales Division. |
11. Solution Business Operations
In order to achieve growth in both the completed model businesses and E-kits centered on DU (Drive Units), some functions of the Marketing Division of the Smart Power Vehicle Business Unit will be reorganized into related departments. In accordance with this, the Marketing Division will be renamed the Sales Division.
・ | We plan to increase the integration and efficiency of the E-Bike businesses (E-kits, completed models) by unifying the location of sales, planning, and procurement functions that were dispersed among the Marketing Division and Business Planning Division under the Smart Power Vehicle Business Unit. |
